Guess who came to see me just now?!

THIS GUY!!!
He's so skinny I can almost wrap my arms around him twice!
He stopped by for a minute so I filled his pockets with candy then stole all his sugar.

I love this dude past the counting. Being his aunt is the most fun!!

Memorial Day weekend

This is how Lauren and I typically handle life with our kids.

"I'll trade you my kid for a few hours if you'll trade me yours afterwards…"

Memorial day was spent in a trade off. I served at church so London went home with the Rhea's after the first service. The Rhea's needed to run some errands so I picked up their two on my way home. I love love love living here with them!

Our afternoon trade was wet, fun, and full of great photo ops.

We spent Monday with our other 'family'. This day was perfect in every single way. Hangs with my best friends, the children were being dreamy, and the food is always the BEST at the Thomas' house. Such a great, great day!

Mother's Day

(again, no clue why the big space at the top of these posts- I've sent an email to support!)
This will be shorter than I hoped, but I'm taking a quick lunch break to clear my mind and write on things that make me happy!

A little backstory, a few years ago when life got complicated, there were times when I wanted to be totally alone. There were other times that I couldn't stand the thought of not having someone right beside me all the time. Insert Hannah. At one point, she and her husband came to meet us at the beach one weekend so I wouldn't be alone. We ended up having a total blast and have made it an annual tradition! Hannah is preggers and they used this trip as their 'baby moon' so I don't have any pictures of them on here! They took this last chance to lounge a bit more, and you know, life with a 4 year old at the beach is full of NO LOUNGING!! :) So, we high fived in passing a lot but that's okay! Life beachside is easy like that and I love a friendship that can exist just as happily in the passing as it does in the present!

London had been looking forward to this trip for weeks! It was all she could talk about. We drove down late on a Thursday night and Friday morning we headed down to a super early cloudy beach. She stepped off the boardwalk, immediately fell on to her back and began making JOY FILLED sand angels. She could not contain the happy. I was dying! She makes me the happiest!
The ocean wasn't very pretty. It had been stormy so the water was brown… like lake water color. Also, the waves were enormous so we really couldn't get in past about calf deep or it would take you completely down. It was a bit scary so we mostly stayed in the surf.

Working that never failing bathing suit wedgie.

Her happy place. :)
So so great. Getting UP!!
Being a mermaid. I'm super not good at making a mermaid tail!

We had an afternoon of rain showers so we decided to check out the Gulf Shores zoo. NOT my best idea. In their defense, they are still trying to rebuild from a few years of devastating hurricane seasons, and you can tell it's a work in progress, but I wish they could loan their animals to another facility until they have a chance to rebuild a proper structure. You could feed most of the animals but they were so skinny and mangy and looked so sad. The viewing areas were made of the dog pen wire and the animals slept in those dog igloo containers. I was so sad for them. It honestly changed my perspective of zoos. They are fun and great tools for education but I just wanted to send all of these poor animals back into the wild where they belong. Obviously I kept all of these feelings from London, so she had a great time!

This was our favorite guy. He was the sweetest little deer but he looked like he was starving to death. We both were wishing he could move to Booper's house where he could be big, fat, and happy with the rest of the herd that lives there!

Sunday gave us a half day at the pool and beach before we headed back home. London gave me the best mother's day gift ever: independent shallow end swimming!!! WOOOO HOOOO! I am relaxing in a chair beside the swimming pool here while she swims away. GLORY HALLELUJAH! We just may be at the beginning of the stage where dear ole mom can grab some R & R at the beach again! No complaints here if that's what goes down!
(I'm totally in love with her)

We had a great vacation. There were so many times that I caught myself taking mental notes to never forget these moments as they were happening. The sound of her feet as they slap flat-footed on the pool deck when she runs. The way she would speak in a high, sing-songy voice to the animals at the zoo… like a proper momma. How she was unrelenting in catching a frog in the parking lot then so proud of herself for not letting go (until we got in the car and he was free range hopping again!). Exploring and the excitement over finding beautiful "she shells. The way you could hear her squeals of delight in MARS over getting taken out by a wave. She is an extraordinary child and being alone with her is my very favorite thing.

I also found it interesting and endearing that on Mother's day, everyone noticed each other. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with keeping to yourself, but compared to all the other days on the beach, Sunday was strikingly different. As we walked down the beach, everyone would call out, 'Happy Mother's Day!' I loved how the recognition of another person changed the whole environment around us. I wish we felt so free to recognize people for their goodness, or hard work, or happiness every day. I was charmed by how the world seemed shifted for this one day to be more thoughtful of each other. There is so much good in people. I love watching it make way through the wall we protect ourselves with. People are just my favorite.

As always, thank you, Mom and Dad for another wonderful weekend away where I was filled to the brim with happiness! I'm so grateful for your generosity to let us enjoy this getaway!

Birthday Zoo Trip

I have so many posts loaded but no time to write about them! Here's a quick, fun recap of a birthday party that we attended at the Birmingham Zoo! We had SUCH a fun time! I can't imagine the party bill, but we were super thankful to have been invited!

Carouselling with my most awesome best friend in the whole world!

Two kids that I'd do anything in the whole world for. I just adore them.

We have never been to the Zoo splash pad. They had a bubble pool that London was ALL ABOUT. She had a blast burying herself in bubbles (and terrifying her mom because she would completely disappear in there!)

Encased in Bubbles!

The flamingo's are always my favorite! Our zoo is really fantastic. You'll read more about another recent zoo trip soon, but the B'ham zoo is big, well taken care of, and all the animals seem happy about their habitat. Im so thankful for this experience in our backyard. It's fun for everyone!

These two….

"Hey Guys!"

Sweet Lizzy

Sweet Lizzy had her 2nd dance recital last weekend. The whole family (minus Charley because she was in a training for her Hoover Ambassadors program) came to celebrate and support our favorite girl twin!
Snacking Seat Mates

It's days like today, where the value of having a group of people becomes so clear. There were 10 of us in the audience, flowers in hand and hearts inflated in our chests. All of us so excited to encourage and cheer on our gorgeous girl! Elizabeth's love languages are verbal praise and affection.  It's extra fun to watch her on days like today... where we all are congratulating her on a job well done and praising her for her hard work. Cute little thing lights up from the tip of her toes to the top of her head!

The praise was justified though! She looked so tiny on that big stage but little lady nailed every single move! I know I'm a biased aunt, but the honest to God truth is that she was by far the best dancer in her group. For her to have NO BOOTY what-so-ever, she sure knows how to shake her lacking assets! :) She was so animated and hit every jazz hand and twirl right on the mark!

Fan Club

My favorite part of the day: We all went back to the Rhea's house for dinner but prior to eating, I loaded one of Lizzy's performance songs on my phone so she could do her routine again for us. After dinner, Charley's boyfriend stopped by to pick her up and we were asking Lizzy to do the dance for him. She was being giggly/shy and saying no to dancing but I pressed play on the music and by BEAT ONE, she was in full performance mode, facials, spot on moves, the whole nine yards! I was tickled pink over her! We are all so very proud of the beautiful performer that you've become sweet Lizzy Beth!

Random awesomeness

*I accidentally deleted this post while trying to edit it with pics of Caden and Liz, so if you've seen this, I added a few cute pictures but this is otherwise the same post as earlier this week!
I love the big trips to California and Mother's Day at the beach (coming soon!) but nothing beats the daily minutia of life with London.

Some of her recent awesomeness:
Lu: 'Mom, can we go inside the donut store?'
Me: 'Let me think about it.'
Lu: 'Is your head thinking yes or no, Mom?'

Caden to London: 'What is your favorite game to play?'
London: 'I can't catch you and you can not catch me either.'

One afternoon after a fun play day London said, 'You made me feel so sparkly special today, Mom!' :)

It's finally, solidly spring time here but April was a little testy. Winter one day, spring the next. On one unexpected rainy, cold day, grumpy London piped up from the backseat and said, 'I just told God to don't put any more rain out and don't put any more wind out and bring back summer right now!!'

I asked her how coconut water was made. Answer: 'Monkeys get coconuts and crack them open and pour water into bottles and give it to the humans.'

On privacy: She closed the door behind herself to go potty at home one day and told me that 'she needed some privacy so nobody could see her business.' Ha!!

She loves to be outdoors. One Sunday afternoon we piled a whole bunch of stuff to play with outside so she could run around and I could lay out and read my bible study book. Silly mommy. She sat on my behind/laid on my back the whole time I tried to be still. She likes having me as a playmate. So if I was going to be still, she was going to be as close as possible so we could talk a lot. Mylanta, I love her. It won't always be this way and I love it. I'll take a London sized tan line any day!

She's coloring here because this is clearly the only spot to color! :)
Thanks to the lovely Booper, we are super interested in bird watching. This same Sunday afternoon, we made homemade bird feeders and hung them from a tree. Then we made strawberry smoothies, set out our lawn chairs and watched the birds fly around the back yard. This was momentarily disturbed by a lizard sighting but it was so fun to just chill out and talk birds with my little lady!
Booper was in Birmingham babysitting the twins and Charley on Mother's Day so we met up for pizza at a place down the street with a great patio. I noticed Caden and Lizzy slow dancing outside, so naturally I popped out to document every. single. turn. This boy. He is a joy to be around. Truly. He has such a heart to make people happy. He was totally into his roll of dancing with the girls and there was no measure for the delight the girls had over having a real dance partner. I mean, look at their faces. And yes, that's Lizzy kissing him on the cheek for dancing with her. Gah. So cute!
And just because her face is awesome.

A few days ago, I was about to drive out onto a busy street and found this guy very slowly attempting to cross the street. I attempted a rescue, which you can read about below.
A quick backstory on this type of critter. For London's 3rd birthday, we all went to the aquarium. The night before our trip, Andaddy told London some signature Andaddy story about how she needed to be careful around the snapping turtles because if one bites you, it won't let go until it THUNDERS.
So, please see my photo, description, then my dad's reply below. He is the greatest ever!

I love him so much!
{Video}
Lu was with her Dad this week and he sent me this video of her… video proof of why she's the greatest of all time!

She came home on Friday and we big time celebrated her return! (coming soon!) She was a bit quiet when she first came home but I think it was like after you've been at camp where you just need to decompress a bit. I let her sleep with me Friday and come Saturday morning, she was not letting me out of her reach. We didn't even get out of bed until 10 am because every time I tried to get up, she'd squeal and ask me, 'can you please just stay and cuddle with me???' Sunday was a lot of the same! She made a bed for us on the couch then asked if we could cuddle up and watch a movie on my phone. We spent pretty much the entire weekend with her in my nook, giving me lots of sneak kisses. My momma heart is so full and I'm over the moon to have her back home with me!

Sunday brunch at Waffle House. After she finished she stated that 'today is a sticky, greasy day, Momma!' Ha! Yes, punkin. Waffle House is a bit sticky, greasy, and delicious!
