Small town USA gets a little bit bigger...

My mom is uber gifted. If I started to list all of her wonderful qualities, this post would turn into a book, so Ill leave it at this... she's always been a terrific writer. The kind that makes your imagination bloom when you're reading her words. Here's a funny little write up about her recent trip to the brand new PetSmart in Columbus. Great job, momma! I love you so!

Grand Opening of Petsmart by Bette Rhea
If you didn’t go to the grand opening of Petsmart on Saturday, then you missed a treat.
I thought I would miss the initial rush so I arrived about 9:45 a.m.  Finally finding a place in the crowded parking lot, I exited my car to the sound of barking dogs and laughing owners.  Even the parking lot was an “event” as people hurried to and fro with taut leashes on dogs of every shape, breed, and color.
The barking seemed to be coming from outside the store as the Humane Society had a booth set up showing off dogs looking for a new home.  A lab mix was making sure no one missed seeing him, while a couple of others sat quietly waiting for someone to fall in love with them.  As I stood there, one lucky fellow was adopted, and the Humane Society volunteers were so excited!
Entering the store was like going to a pet competition in Madison Square Garden.
There was a tiny terrier in the baby section of the shopping cart, warmly seated (and almost invisible) on Mom’s fake fur coat that matched the terrier exactly.  There was a bulldog sporting a spiked harness instead of the traditional collar.  There was a weimaraner dressed as a pumpkin and a number of other costumed dogs ranging from Superman to clowns.  There were burly men standing beside broad-chested chocolate labs.  There were women with chihauhuas in each arm.  There was an older gentleman in a wheelchair with a tiny pet sitting in his lap, attached to him with a jeweled leash.  There was a delightful Corgi whose mother was as proud of him as the queen of England.  There was a bizon whose owner declared him her very best friend and constant companion.
There were dogs walking easily by their owner’s sides; there were dogs safely secured in shopping carts; there were dogs struggling in owner’s arms; and there were dogs calmly dozing in purses.
It was a sight to see, and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
I went in to buy large breed Puppy Chow and a dog bed for my six month old Golden Retriever Archie (who thankfully I didn’t take because he would have been in sensory overload).  I ended up buying a bag of dog food and standing in line for 30 minutes.  But, you know, no one seemed to mind the long lines, or the noise, or the crowd because we were too busy oohing and aahing over each others’ dogs.  The only two unhappy souls in the store were a 2 year old little girl who was way past nap time and the poor pooch who had just been shampooed and was being groomed in front of a crowd of children.  The lady in line in front of me offered the little girl a dollar if she would just quit crying but to no avail.  The rest of us were happily petting and complimenting and even sharing photos of the pets left at home instead of complaining about anything.

Pets just seem to bring out the best in us.  They love us so unconditionally that they change our lives and our attitudes for the better.  They help us make friends, even in the parking lot of Petsmart on a beautiful Fall day.  They make our lives fuller and happier.
So, I’ll go back on a quieter day to Petsmart, taking Archie with me so we can buy a few treats, make some new friends, and enjoy the ambience of “his” store together.

96 years young

My sweetest grandfather will turn 96 years old next week! As in NINTY SIX!!! As in 4 YEARS SHY OF 100!!! He is just the sweetest thing you've ever met and has always been the most fun grandfather. I remember him being younger and always joking around. ie. He's always been mostly bald, but he used the biggest comb you've ever seen to brush the few hairs that he's held on to! :) He is an absolute joy to be around and has some amazing life stories to tell! He's vowed to live to 110, so hopefully I'll have many, many more years of posting precious pictures of him! In the meantime, here are some great pictures my mom took of her dear ole dad!
Papa, the one and only!

I love you past the countin', Papa! Happy early birthday!!

October Fun

Okay, here are a few pictures. I have to comment on the lack of pics on the blog. Everyday when I pick up London from school, here is our exact conversation:
Me: "How was school, baby? Did you have fun? "
Lu: nods head yes. "PLAY PLAY PLAY" (meaning let's go home and play now!)

So, we get home and she is in perpetual motion until she eventually passes out from exhaustion....which leads to very few pictures since they would all be blurry as she runs full speed in front of the camera! :)

However, Powers and I have gotten a few pictures over the past few weeks so here goes!
Starting with my new all time favorite picture:
She knows how to wear her shades!

She always helps me do the dishes! I love her so much!

Our first dress up costume! I didn't think she'd be all that into it, but she transformed the minute we put her in it! She got all girly and was leaning her head to the side and batting her eyelashes! So funny! She looked adorable!
Saturday was the perfect day. We had an awesome time at our Saturday morning life group, came home and finished all kinds of projects that are all 2 years over due! WOOO HOOO! And London got to ride around in the yard cart while we hauled stuff around! She loved it!

Saturday evening Booper, Andaddy, Me Mommy, and G Daddy all came to town! We were so busy gabbing that we didn't get any pictures! Here are the few I took right when mom got to town. How cute is my mom in her new glasses? I love them!!

 Looking through the fish bowl!

Barry, G-Daddy, and Andaddy went to Talledega on Sunday. Barry took some hilarious pictures and got some cool videos. Their awesome seats were 7 rows up on the start/finish line. They had a blast. I'll try to get the pictures off his phone and put them on here. My dad said his eyes are still burning from looking at all the rednecks with their tattoo's, piercings, beers in one hand, and cigarettes hanging from their mouths... awesome. Welcome to 'Dega!

Swagger Waggon

The Rhea's got a new car!! Woo hoo! They traded in the Suburban for a new Toyota Sienna... which Toyota nicknamed the Swagger Waggon. If you've never seen the spoof video for this car, you have got to watch it! Hilarous!

Mom emailed me some pics of the kids the day they picked up the new car... she said they were so excited!

Family Fun

We had the ever great privilege of babysitting the twins last weekend so Barry and Lauren could go to the State game. We had an absolute blast! They are so much fun and London absolutely ADORES them... and that's the understatement of the century. They hung the moon for sure. Here are my little peanuts all watching a movie in the same chair!

I promised Liz and Caden that we would make Halloween cupcakes while they were with me. It was hilarious! They both loved it, but Caden said 'Im going to have to go home and teach my mom and dad how to make cupcakes!' So funny! The intention was to make Halloween colored cupcakes (the insides have brown and orange sprinkles, plus we had all halloween themed toppings) however, with these two kids, if you give them a choice of color, they will choose pink and blue 100 times out of 100. I argued for a minute that we should stick with the theme, but quickly realized that this day is awesome and we were going to do whatever they wanted to do! Hence, the pink/blue halloween  cupcakes!

This one in particular was TOTALLY excited about his cupcakes! He made special ones for his dad and Pow Pow! :)
Lulu wasn't in on the making, but enjoyed the outcome... and had complete come-aparts when we wouldn't give her cupcakes for every meal for the next 2 days!!

Pow Pow showing the kids all his police gear...
Then proceeding to handcuff me. So. thrilled.about. that.

I love these little people! Even though we live in the same city, I see them far too little! Babysitting days are my FAV!!!

Here are a few video's of Londie Lu. The below video is when I went to get her after nap time. PJ's half on/half off. This same morning, I went in to get her and she was totally naked minus her diaper (thank the Lord!) So, we're officially in the undressing phase!

This was a few nights ago. We have a book about barnyard animals and she can read it with me now! :) Oh, my heart, how I love you so!!

Weekend at the In Laws

We went to Jackson this weekend to visit the In Laws and Renny.. It was a great weekend that absolutely flew by! I'm not sure where our time went! London was having a rough go of things.... poor child. I think she has a few teeth that are VERY SLOWLY coming in and are aggravating her. On top of that, she had a cough/runny nose all last week and it got much worse over the weekend. I felt bad for Poppi and Nana because she was thrilled to go see them! Talked about them all week, but we seem to get (insert grumpy creating sickness here) every time we go visit them! Here's praying for perfect health for our next visit!

Anyway, long introduction to say that Nana suggested we go downtown and check out the new park opening at the Museum of Art. Just what the doctor ordered! It was awesome, very cool, very green, very artsy, and very distracting from London feeling poorly! She had a blast! Here are a lot of pictures of our perfect morning!
I love this one! She loves her Poppi!

 Not just for kids.... :)

They had a mini splash pad section at the Museum. It was warm enough to get wet but it didn't take but a second to realize we were going to go home completely soaked it we didn't just take the plunge and get the tiny tot naked. Notice all the other clothed kids, then our little nakes! She had so so so much fun!

Not so sure about diving in just yet, but getting warmed up!

I love the cute little baby shadow in this one!

Here are a few videos of London having a blast in the water!

Saddest thing you've ever seen... Sunday, when Renny's mom came to pick her up, we asked London to go say goodbye. She got so upset. She hugged Renny, then gripped on in a death grip and would not let go. She cried and cried when her sister left. :( So sad but Im glad they love each other so much!

Sips N Snips

Many many many months ago, I bought a Groupon with a few of my friends so that we could celebrate my sweet friend Kristine's birthday together. She was really wanting to try Sips N Snips, which is an evening at a flower shop where they teach you how to arrange flowers and you can enjoy a beverage if you'd like. Honestly, I was really just in for the time with my friend and the 'Sips'... I didn't think flower arranging would be my thing. Well, we were finally able to redeem our Groupon- busy schedules- and the verdict? I LOVED IT! We had so much fun! Our instructor was great, he gave us lots of ideas on how to do cheap flower arrangements at home, he was great in teaching us how to make our arrangements, the crowd was fun to be with, and I had a whole evening alone with one of my best friends! SUCCESS!! Here are some pictures of our fun girls night out!

Demon Eyes but lovely flowers!

This is how Kristine transported her flowers home! Hilarious!

Good times! Thanks for the awesome night out, my sweet friend!
